11 May Mustaches4Kids 2016
Mustaches4Kids is a volunteer-run organization that originally began in 1999 in Los Angeles with the aim to donate to children’s charities by growing mustaches. Since its beginning, over 2.5 million dollars have been donated to charities such as DonorsChoose and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
So if kids cannot grow mustaches, then how does it work you ask? Well each year, there is a ‘Growing Season’ in which the mustaches growers do not shave the upper lip for four weeks while seeking donations from friends, family, and co-workers. It is described as being, “Kind of like getting pledges to run a marathon. Without the exertion, cramping, or dehydration. Call it a facial hair marathon”. This year out of the thirty-two applicants, the Omaha chapter decided to partner with YES – Youth Emergency Services – to donate all the money raised during growing season. YES is a nonprofit that seeks to serve the homeless and at-risk youth by getting them back on their feet. They help to provide immediate needs for food, shelter, clothing and safety, and then continue in their aid by creating a support system so they may be able to flourish. The five men from Sun Valley who have stepped up to the challenges of Growing Season along with competing to be the ‘Sexiest Company in America’, which is a competition to grow a mustache for thirty days in order to raise money, are: Matt Menard, Dave Krynuza, Tyler Kellogg, Paul Fraynd, and Mikel Leader. Enjoy their clean-shaven faces while they last, because the mustaches are here to say for the month of May. (You can donate to the cause here http://www.m4komaha.com/)
