Big Brothers, Big Sisters
10831 Old Mill Road, Suite 400, Omaha, NE 68154
www.bbsomaha.org

Volunteer Opportunities:

For more than 55 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As one of the metro area’s donor and volunteer supported mentoring organizations, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult mentors (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), throughout the Omaha/ Council Bluffs metro area. Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

We are looking for men, women and married couples to be a friend to a young person in our community. Being a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple is one of the most fulfilling roles. You and your little brother or sister can share the kinds of activities you already like to do. Volunteering just a few hours a month with a child can start something amazing.

Mentoring isn’t rocket science or about fancy ideas or grand gestures. It’s just about being there and having fun doing everyday things with a person who happens to look up to you. We want you to join a community of awesome people willing to do something really big for someone little just by being yourself. So why not apply to be a Big today. There are kids out there ready to get started. Are you?

Days & Times:

Our volunteer mentors get together with their Little Brothers or Little Sisters based upon the availability in their schedules. The agency asks our mentors meet with their Littles two to four times a month for a minimum of 4 hours a month. When you meet and what you do with your Little is up to you, your Little and the Little’s parent or guardian.

Volunteer Opportunities:

TeamMates is a one-to-one school-based mentoring program where a trained adult ( 18 and older) meets once a week with a student in grades 3-12. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person. Matches are based on common interest and hobbies. Mentors serve as an adult friend to guide, giving youth a sense of hope, purpose, and vision.

As a school-based mentoring program, you meet with your mentee at an arranged time during the school day throughout the full school year. Mentees take a lead in deciding what to do during your time together from playing board games, crafts, to reading, talking about your week, finishing homework, and going to the school gym!

Siena Francis Homeless Shelter
1702 Nicholas Street, Omaha, NE 68102
www.sienafrancis.org

Volunteer Opportunities:

We need volunteers to help with meal service, special projects, and as computer lab helpers. Check out some of our specific opportunities:

Interested in volunteering to serve a meal at the Siena/Francis House? Com to a short orientation to learn more about meal service volunteering & sign up.  (Contact  Stephanie to register!)

Sponsor a Veterans Dinner! Are you part of a group who would like to give back to those who served our country?  Interested groups would fundraise enough money to serve about 30 veterans at our shelter. The volunteers would collect funds, purchase food and then come to our shelter and help serve a sit down meal to the Veterans staying at our shelter. This is a unique experience to volunteer in a number of different ways and also an opportunity to meet and thank the Veterans that are staying here at our shelter for their service.

Meal service volunteers arrive ready to assist serving a meal to the guests and residents of the Siena/Francis House. When volunteers arrive they are asked to setup the dining area for the 150+ dinners who be in attendance that morning. This may consist of making coffee, setting up tables and setting out dishes. Then the running begins! Volunteers help put the meal on a tray, serve the meal to the guests. This is a short day time opportunity for an individual or a group of 5. Help needed on Fridays from 8:30am -10am.
